Inwood/Black Butte
The Inwood, Black Butte area is just 20 miles east of Redding at the 1,700 to 2,000 foot elevation. You’re just 20 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Redding, but you have the beauty and privacy of a foothill setting. There are views of the mountains, creeks, pine trees, but no snow. It’s an easy commute to Redding, Millville or Palo Cedro. You can also hop over the hill to the Manton area or Darrah Fish Hatchery. It’s a short drive from there to Red Bluff and the Sacramento River. Black Butte shopping includes 2 restaurants, a bakery, Quilt Barn, hair salon, mini-storage, grocery store and an auto repair shop.
Downtown Shingletown
The elevation in center of Shingletown is approximately 3,500 feet. This area encompasses many retail shops and services including Reed’s Market, the Shingletown Store, 2 gas stations, restaurants, hair salons, Shasta Forest Realty, Shingletown Medical Center, Shingletown Library, Scott Valley Bank, the Ridge Rider News, Farmer’s Insurance, a dentist and numerous gift shops.
There are many lovely area in which to live, either in a subdivision or on your own private piece of land. There’s Shasta Forest Village, Whispering Woods and Woodridge Lake Estates.
John Welch’s totem pole graces the meadow area on a piece of property that will hopefully have a community center in the near future. The Shingletown Library and Shingletown Medical Center are across the street.
You’re surrounded by lakes and streams in Shingletown and here you’ll find 2 PGE lakes, Grace and Nora, which are stocked during the summer months and favored by local and visiting fishermen.
Circle K/KOA Campgrounds
This area is a little higher up “the hill or ridge”. There is an airport that is no longer used but is the home of the yearly “Star Party” astronomers who come from all over for a week every summer to view the sky because of our clear, clean mountain skies.
This area also boasts an award winning KOA Campground.
Most of homes in the area are on at least an acre or more. Circle K subdivision, with its lovely homes, is located here.
Starlite Pines
This subdivision is up the hill even higher and has its own water system and many nice homes.
Lake McCumber/Battle Creek
This area has Lake McCumber, a PG&E lake which is stocked and allows you to use your boat with an electric motor. There is also a Camp McCumber which hosts many groups for summer camping and fun.
Meadows and creeks, Battle Creek, Manzanita Creek and Deer Creek, run through this area which is about 3,900 feet. The subdivisions include Battle Creek, Mountain Meadows, Mountain Cabin Sites. You’ll find whatever you want in this diverse part of Shingletown - mountain views, meadow views, privacy.
Viola/Deer Flat
At 4,000 feet, this upper part of Shingletown also has beautiful views and meadows with Deer Creek and Bailey Creek and Brokeoff Meadows. There are also two Christian summer camps in this area.

Highway 44 runs through the middle of Shingletown and Viola, from 1,700 feet to over 4,000 feet. This is the direct route from Eureka to Reno.
Manton
The small community, 7 miles down the hill from Shingletown, has vineyards and wineries, and is known for its apples. There is an Apple Festival the first Saturday of October which attracts thousands of visitors. Water Wheel Park also is home to many events during the summer such as car shows, miniature horses, art shows, etc. Most of Manton is anywhere from 2,000 to 3,500 feet. You’ll see sheep, goats, llamas, horses, cows. Many properties feature ditch water that runs with the land.
